Faultless Defense Guide

What Faultless Defense Does

Faultless Defense (FD) is a tension-powered block enhancement. Hold back and press any two attack buttons except Dust while blocking to activate a green shield. FD negates chip damage, prevents R.I.S.C. Level gain from blocked hits, and pushes the attacker away significantly.

FD drains tension continuously while held — tap rather than mash-hold unless you intentionally want maximum pushback. Instant Faultless Defense (IFD) performed just before impact increases attacker pushback while keeping the defender in place, creating space to reset neutral.

Strategic FD Usage

Use FD to escape corner pressure, reset against grapplers, and deny R.I.S.C. buildup when your opponent relies on long block strings. Avoid FD when you need to stay close for punishes — pushback can cause whiffing on short-range counters. Ky players often bait FD with safe pokes; Goldlewis mains suffer when opponents FD his approach.

Assign a dedicated FD button in settings if finger gymnastics cause missed inputs. Pair FD knowledge with throw awareness — blocking players who FD habitually are still throwable.

FD vs Other Defensive Tools

FD spends Tension; Psych Burst spends Burst gauge; Counter Blitz spends Burst gauge on counter-hit slowdown. Budget meter across these options. Yellow RC also creates space but costs more tension upfront and carries different risk.

Air FD accelerates landing, enabling fast retreat from jump-in pressure. Combine with Instant Block (blocking just before impact) for tension gain when FD is unavailable.

Häufige Fragen

Does FD increase blockstun?
No in Strive — unlike older Guilty Gear titles, FD focuses on pushback and chip denial.
Can I FD in the air?
Yes. Air FD affects landing timing and can help escape air strings.
Why do I run out of tension instantly?
Holding FD drains meter continuously. Tap the input for brief pushback bursts.
Is IFD worth learning?
Yes for matchups requiring precise spacing — IFD maximizes pushback without moving yourself.
Does FD stop throws?
No. Throws beat stand block. Mix throw defense with FD against defensive opponents.
